The Wind that shakes the barley

Hi!

The last week my class and I watch the film "The Wind that shakes the barley" and I wanna tell you my opinion about it.

I think I liked the movie, it was interesting to know more about the IRA and the story of their fight against the British Empire, because it is not something that we learn in school so we know about it just for rumors and an idea of universal history.

My favorite character was Damien, because he could accept he was wrong at the start of the story when he saw the brutality of the enemy army. I like him because he understood the necessity of "take the arms" when is required to get back the dignity of the people.

One thing I liked about the film was the way it shows the relation between the members of the rebel group, because there wasn't "idols", everybody was important and as much necessary as everyone else, even when the story was told from "the Damien side".

Something I didn't like was the way it shows the female characters, just in a second place, being the "love interest" of the man characters and always remain in a pasive role or traditional for "women" in society.

My favorite scene was when the two brothers confront each other in the opposite place, as enemys, when Damien is arrested and his brother interrogate him. I like this because all the "emotional extortion" Damien stay still to his ideas even when it should be really hard for him.

I believe if your looking for a entertaining and educative movie, this is the one for you.

Bye-bye!

  1. Well, I didn't watch the movie but sound interesting, except for the women's role. Although that happened in those times, really suck when you see that behavior in a movie or serie, or read on a book.

  2. It is true, the relationship that the rebels had was quite horisontal and that was something very significant.

  3. It's interesting the dramatical turn that happens in Damien's way of thinking when he sees the brutality at the train station. Also i think the team work quality that a revolution, in my opinion, must necessarily have it's really well portrayed in this film by not making Damien a super-lead character, but as a part of a group. Thanks for the review, Cata!
